p|m gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Meghan McKnight?s fourth solo exhibition.
McKnight?s newest paintings are characterized by a paradox of being impactful, yet subtle. They focus the viewer?s attention on repetition, time, chromatic shifts, and luminosity. The physicality of McKnight?s work demonstrates a rigorous commitment to the act of painting. Previously McKnight?s use of the palette knife was to create intriguing backgrounds upon which elaborate surfaces were built. Since the fall of 2009 the role of the palette knife moves to the fore. Staccato and decisive, each stroke places an emphasis on colour gradation that raises questions about depth and radiance. McKnight labours to disorient the viewer, thus forcing them to lend their own ingenuity to interpret the painting.
