Joe Sola
p|m Gallery is pleased to present 3’s: a solo exhibition of Los Angeles based artist Joe Sola. The exhibition includes video, watercolours, and a performance at the opening reception.
Joe Sola uses Hollywood cinema as fodder for his projects, inversing its imagery and themes in order to examine Hollywood’s construction of the male identity. Sola’s performances often employ the excesses and stereotypes Hollywood cinema perpetuates. During his solo exhibition Taking a Bullet at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE), Sola presented Film Actors Make Conceptual Art, 2005. Film actors were provided with an explanation of conceptual art and commonplace materials during the opening of the exhibition. Sola’s performance at p|m Gallery is going to be a surprise.
The video Watercolor, a collaboration with New York-based playwright Will Eno, leads the viewer on a brief educational tour of the finer points of landscape watercolour painting and mortality.
Joe Sola’s watercolours meditate on humorous and poignant trios.
