William Griffiths
In his newest series of abstract paintings, William Griffiths continues his dynamic exploration of the physical dexterity of acrylic paint. Layers of bold colour play off complex textures creating an intense visual experience.
Griffiths’ canvases have energetic surfaces, chromatically charged by loose skins of polymer over elaborately layered backgrounds. Griffiths also uses a blowtorch to bubble and singe the paint. There is a visual push and pull to his paintings that accosts the viewer and draws them in to explore the myriad of tones, hues, and textures. Griffiths’ lengthy process is a metaphor for how he wants an audience to engage in the paintings; to literally look beneath the uppermost surface of the picture plane.
